Good Infrastructure, Requires The Right People.
At this time of year the logistics industry experiences major peaks. Throughout December, added pressure comes through retail, food and beverages sectors as they experience their optimum sales time, during the run up to the Christmas period and beyond.
The Freight Transport Association advice there is a growing shortage of drivers in the UK, which needs to be addressed.
As well as all regular shipping consignments travelling throughout the world, the warning that a national shortage of drivers could hit deliveries to shops and stores in the run-up to Christmas, comes as a major concern for many retailers and manufacturers.
At KC Group Shipping we welcome the public news from The Freight Transport Association as it brings awareness of the concerns around the driver shortage and an ageing workforce that needs addressed.
This recent news release is something we have been monitoring and addressing internally for some time now and although there are real concerns across the sector, KC Group Shipping have applied measures that allow our continually growing client base to be safe in the knowledge of our fulfilment expertise and client commitment.
With circa 100 sub contractors and owner drivers, working under the KC Group Shipping brand, some of which are long standing relationships, we are confident that although this is a concern for the industry, for our clients, they can take comfort that we have the infrastructure to not only cope with the demands at this time of year, but excel their expectations.
It is true that driver recruitment across the industry is something that is becoming harder each year, but our approach is the right people, that fit within our client supply chain management. Our agency agreements across the globe also compliment this, through further driver consignment support.
THE INTERNAL ANSWER FOR US IS SIMPLE. WE STILL ATTRACT PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SKILLS, UP TO DATE TRAINING AND COMMITMENT TO OUR INDUSTRY THAT MIRRORS OUR OWN APPROACH.
Like anything else, a partnership approach with fleet drivers and sub-contract hauliers allows all parties to get the most out of a relationship. What does this in turn mean for our clients, well again, simple, they have the right people in place to deliver their goods. On time, every time!
The sector answer is a little more complicated at this time, with The Freight Transport Association stating that 40% of drivers are 50 or over, while just 1% are under the age of 25.
We must, as a collective address those statistics.
This means that freight forwarders throughout the United Kingdom, The Freight Transport Association, recruitment companies and all government and legislative parties must make the industry an attractive one to work within.
For our many clients, operating within varied sectors, the future looks fine. For the good of the industry, KC Group Shipping will continue to highlight our industry, attract new talent and hope that the sector continues to support logistics throughout the United Kingdom.
